United Kingdom · Residency by investment
Tier 1 (Investor) visa
Closed to new applications with no notice on 17 February 2022 over security concerns — illegitimately acquired wealth and links to corruption. Permanently closed; there is no successor route. The GBP 5m 'invite-only' concept floated in 2026 is a proposal only.
Its closure and the reasons given for it — that the route had been used to launder reputations as much as money — are why any revived UK investor visa will be invite-only, vetted, and steered away from property. It also explains the political ceiling on any 2026 revival: the same Home Office that killed it must now be persuaded to rebuild it.
