Quality Migrant Admission Scheme

Reformed Last verified July 2026

Open and reformed, not closed. The annual quota was suspended for 2023–2025 and the enhanced General Points Test replaced the old item-by-item scoring with a criteria-based questionnaire — and there are no annual quotas under the enhanced GPT. Verify current mechanics with Immigration before relying on the points arithmetic quoted elsewhere.

QMAS does not require a job offer, which distinguishes it from ordinary employment visas, and the removal of the quota under the enhanced GPT makes it materially more usable than its reputation suggests. For most high earners, though, TTPS Category A is faster and simpler.

Qualifying routes

Enhanced General Points Test

Applicants confirm whether they meet 12 assessment criteria across six aspects — age, academic qualifications, language proficiency, work experience, annual income and business ownership — and may apply if they meet at least six

Achievement-based points test

For applicants with exceptional achievement such as an Olympic medal, a Nobel Prize or comparable lifetime distinction

What can go wrong
  • Approval remains discretionary and selective even without a quota — meeting six of twelve criteria permits you to apply, not to succeed.
  • The scheme's mechanics have changed repeatedly since 2023. Any points table you find online older than 2024 is unreliable.
  • Like TTPS, this is an entry route; permanence still requires seven years of genuine ordinary residence.
